My Big God- Speaking to the Mountains

Yesterday, I watched a popular preacher on television and his message was centered on speaking to the mountains in our lives. He said that as children of God, we may have prayed, fasted, cried out to God and done all that we know to do regarding the obstacles in our lives that prevent us from fulfilling our destiny. However, it may not be enough to just cry out to God- it is important to speak to them directly. He gave many examples of people in the bible who had spoken to their situations and the situations changed. There was David speaking to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:45 “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” Of course David killed Goliath and Israel got delivered from the hands of the Philistines. We also know the story about the three Hebrew boys Shadrack, Meshach and Abednego. They were able to face the King and tell him that they would never bow down to an idol even though it meant their imminent death. They came out victorious. Jesus also spoke directly to the problems that faced his followers like when He ordered the storm to be still, when He spoke to the demons and asked them to leave, when he commanded diseases to leave the bodies of different individuas and many other occasions. We need to start speaking to our mountains and asking (not requesting or pleading) them to leave in Jesus name.

That got me reflecting on various mountains that have stood in my way for so many years. These are obstacles that I have prayed and fasted about. I realized that I have obsessed about the magnitude of my problems and forgotten how big my God is. I, like many Christians keep reminding God how big the obstacles are that stand in my way instead of speaking to the obstacles about how big my God is. That thought was so empowering that suddenly I felt peace about certain situations which I have been too afraid to deal with in the past. I started speaking life to various situations and even speaking a blessing and God’s favor over my life. My hope resurrected in me and I started focusing on the power of my big God instead of my powerlessness over those situations.

The word of God in Romans 8:11 says “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.” This scripture gave me confidence about the potential that is in me. That the same spirit who resurrected Jesus was working in me and so I have the power to speak to the mountains in my life and tell them to get out of my way and also bring those dead situations back to life. That is what the Spirit of God living in me can do.

I also reflected on Mathew 17:20 which says, “ I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” It is time to start speaking to the mountains by the power given to us in Christ. In him, we are conquerors. Start speaking, will you?
